RBA connected with Gandhi statue in London

Lord Meghnad Desai of the Gandhi Memorial Trust as he unveils Gandhi statue in London.Retail Banking Academy is proud to be connected with the unveiling of a historic bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi in London’s Parliament Square.

The 9ft (2.7m) bronze statue, brainchild of Lord Meghnad Desai of the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust, stands next to other iconic world leaders like anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela and Britain's war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

The statue will act as a tribute to Gandhi at the 100th anniversary of his return to India from South Africa, which marked the beginning of India’s struggle for freedom.

The Retail Banking Academy donated to the trust in support of Lord Meghnad Desai, which raised over £1m in donations to fund the work of building and erecting the statue. The leftover funds will go towards further promotion of the life and work of Gandhi.

RBA CEO Evelyn Hunter-Jordan said she was pleased The Retail Banking Academy will be associated with such an historic occasion.

“We are delighted to have donated to the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust and to see the statue come to life in Parliament Square. It is important for the Retail Banking Academy to be a part of events such as this, especially to be a part of how such an iconic leader is remembered,” Hunter-Jordan said.

The RBA is committed to making the Certified Retail Banker qualification the industry’s recognised professional designation worldwide and we would love to welcome candidates from India onto the programme. Find out how the qualification can benefit your career today.
